Refrigerant cylinders contain liquefied gas under pressure, so safe handling protects both you and the product. Following good practice prevents accidents and keeps refrigerant in usable condition.
Storage
- Store cylinders upright in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight and heat
- Keep them secured so they can’t fall or roll
- Store flammable refrigerants (A2L, A3) according to their specific requirements, away from ignition sources
- Keep valves closed and caps fitted when not in use
Handling
- Never drop or knock cylinders
- Wear appropriate PPE, including gloves and eye protection — liquid refrigerant can cause cold burns
- Charge blends as a liquid from an upright cylinder where required
- Never overfill a recovery cylinder — observe the safe fill limit
Transport and disposal
Secure cylinders during transport, and return empties or send recovery cylinders for proper handling. Never heat a cylinder with a naked flame to increase pressure.
